Viacom and Amazon Might Very Well Destroy Netflix

Netflix… prepare for battle, cause Amazon isn’t messing around now.
The ridiculously large retail giant has just announced that they are on Viacom’s good side, and are going to be teaming up to dish Netflix a whole lot of pain. Their weapon of choice? Why Viacom’s massive collection of TV shows of course, all for their Amazon Prime peeps.
This agreement will allow Amazon Prime members to instantly grab television programming from Viacom’s arsenal, from channels such as Comedy Central, BET, MTV, Nickelodeon, TV Land, VH1, CMT, Spike TV, and more. Right out of the gate, Amazon Prime subscribers will have over 15,000 videos to choose from. Now that is a sweet deal for consumers.
To make matters even more grim for the old streaming favorite of the world, Netflix’s deal with Starz is about to expire, creating even fewer shows at Netflix customers’ disposal. Granted, this deal could get renewed, but would that even matter with this huge deal coming from Viacom and Amazon?
Netflix has a rough road ahead of them now. They’ve already lost subscribers when they changed prices, and then again when they were flipping around their networks, creating two completely separate sites to handle DVD media and streaming independantly. Netflix customers haven’t been happy lately, and with a streak like this still in effect, Viacom is clearly out to kick them while they are down.
I don’t know how many of you are Netflix customers, but I’d perhaps urge you to check out Amazon Prime and see what kind of a deal it is. It’s obviously not free, as it’s competing with Netflix soon, but Amazon Prime offers features that Netflix doesn’t even consider to be in it’s marketing mix, like retail. Amazon Prime customers have been getting great shipping rates, and lots of other cool perks. That’s not going to be good for Netflix. Not at all.
