WinterBoard is amazing, don’t get me wrong. It has the awesome ability to allow users to customize almost all aspects of their iOS device (if you are jailbroken that is). Even down to custom sounds for texting and all other system sounds, if desired. There has really been a huge competitor to Winterboard, except Dreamboard. However, since Winterboard was free and Dreamboard was a pricey $2.99… Dreamboard never really went to very many devices.
So what is one thing the makers of Dreamboard could do to help them soar onto the handsets of more people? Simple… lower the price. That’s exactly what they did… all the way down to FREE!
DreamBoard is a very powerful theming platform for the iPhone and iPod touch. It has a huge advantage over Winterboard now that it’s free, purely because of some unique features:
DreamBoard lets you place anything from widgets to apps where ever you want. Theming is no longer limited to just icons, or having to resort to complicated setup themes involving Iconoclasm, SpringJumps, etc.
DreamBoard makes it easy to switch between any theme in just a few seconds. Simply launch, choose and apply! And, DreamBoard eliminates the long wait of having to restart Springboard every time you make a change. No more resprings!
Another key difference between Winterboard and Dreamboard is HOW they theme the device. Winterboard has usually been about tweaking certain aspects of the iPhone one thing at a time (icons, background, sounds, lockscreen, etc). Of course, you could activate them all at once in an easy and quick series of steps, so it’s not a huge deal, and it’s a very awesome app. For the people out there that like to tweak the hell out of their iOS devices though, Dreamboard will make them fall in love all over again… That’s because it tends to be more focused on HUGE changes, and deeper tweaking.
You can even make your iPhone look, and operate, just like an Android Device (if that’s what you are into… why do you have an iPhone again?).
The best feature for most themers, (aside from an awesome personalized look of course) is the fact that there is no need to respring your iOS device after changing themes with Dreamboard. After activating Dreamboard, you’ll immediately change themes on the fly, without needing to restart the OS. No RESPRINGS!!
Please note: It is unknown at this time how your device will react with Dreamboard while running the iOS 5 beta).
