Share Your Music Over WiFi From Your iPhone, iPod, or iPad!
Eavesdrop is a clever app that allows iDevice owners to share tracks with friends over a Wi-Fi network. Currently, the app is available to download for $1.99, although it could be removed from the App Store at any moment.
The app works very well for sharing music with other users who are connected to the same WiFi network, and who also have Eavesdrop installed. I don’t really see the fact that both phones, or iPods have to have the app installed as too big of an issue though, considering that you likely know the person, and actually plan to share music. Still, it’s just another thing that has to happen in order for teh functionality of the app to work, and it’s not that hard to just download the app (unless it’s removed).
It really would be great if Apple incorporated a feature such as this into the iOS. We’ll never see it though. Publishers will never allow that to happen. Luckily this app is capable of it easily, and it’s priced at a pretty fair $1.99 (for now).
Note that this isn’t actually allowing the sharing of music files over WiFi. You can’t actually transfer the song from your buddy’s iPod to yours. This is allowing you to play music from another iDevice. Think of it as a basic on the go version of AirPlay.
It’s pretty likely that complaints from record companies and such will force Apple to remove this app from the App Store pretty quickly, so if you want it… I recommend getting it quick.
