Some of you might remember Playstation Suite. No? That’s okay; in my opinion, it really wasn’t worth your time. What potentially is, however, is Playstation Mobile, a revamped Playstation Suite recently revealed by Sony at Gamescom 2012. Playstation Mobile is exactly what it sounds like, a service to bring Sony-approved games to mobile devices, including the PS Vita and certified Android devices.
The list of games for Playstation Mobile (to be launched sometime this fall), is growing and already includes almost every genre of game imaginable. More important than the launch titles, is the list of developers that have decided to work with Playstation Mobile, including big names such as SEGA, THQ, and over eighty more.
So, Sony’s got some big names on a big list, and combined with the cloud gaming service they’re developing, they’re set to make a big splash in the mobile gaming world. But is it all necessary? I’m not so sure. Games were already being developed for the Vita and Android, so what serious innovation does Playstation Mobile bring new to the industry? The most attractive titles that will be on the Playstation Mobile can reach a larger audience simply being released on Google Play, and I’m pretty sure that any successful game wouldn’t stay exclusive to Playstation Mobile for long. So I’m not sure if I should be excited or not. Either way, I’ll be reviewing Playstation Mobile later in the year after I’ve gotten my hands on it to see if it’s worth the hype.
