Ever been walking around  and wish you could hear a certain song? This happens to me all the time, especially on those times when there is a song stuck in my head and I can’t get it out! There is usually apps like Pandora to satisfy any music craving when it comes to songs not found in your iTunes Library, however that app has limitations! You can’t pick the song you want, search through specific songs, develop specific playlists of your favorite songs (not just favorite “stations”) and of course as we all know, there is a skip-song limit and you have to deal with ads.

Luckily, when times seemed bleek, and your urge of fist pumping was about to go unsatisfied, there is a simple app that will save the day! Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting “SimplePlayer” from Cydia! Of course, you are going to need to be jailbroken to access Cydia, so if you haven’t done that already, go ahead and click your firmware: iOS 4.1 / iOS 4.2.1 / iOS 4.3.1 / iOS 4.3.3

UPDATE: This is available on the App Store as well! SimplePlayer Pro! SEE BELOW FOR MORE DETAILS!

Developed by Denis Stas, SimplePlayer does exactly what the name suggests: It simply plays music. It does it way better than even pandora, or your own iPod app does too! SimplePlayer has a huge collection of music coming from God knows where, and it’s all played for you in a very intuitive interface that allows a user to search for anything they want to listen to, and just hit play.

The search interface is really nice, because it’s not specific to any part of a song’s information. For example, you don’t need to search for just artists, or just song titles, or worse yet, just Genres. No, you can search for anything you want, and it’ll pull it up (can’t guarantee every song in the world will pull up, especially if you listen to a lot of indie music). Not sure what to listen to? No problem! SimplePlayer allows users to search the Top-100 list of popular radio stations, so you can easily get your fix until you figure it out!

Another great part about SimplePlayer is how well it feels like a native app for iPhone. Much like Pandora, the app supports multitasking, so you can use other apps while it’s playing, and it’s easily controlled by the multitasking bar at the bottom. You can skip through as many songs as you like, whether you are in the app, or not. I’ve searched for a lot of songs I like, and I haven’t found one yet that SimplePlayer didn’t have. The need for music to be on your phone is “almost” over. I say “almost” because you’ll still need a data connection, and it will still use data. If you have Unlimited, feel free to play it all the time. For those of you with a limited data plan, you may want to watch that, or connect to WiFi as often as possible.

SimplePlayer is available in Cydia right now, and it’s FREE.

Don’t want to jailbreak? That’s OKAY! You can get it from the App Store too! It’s only 99¢ HERE

I really like this app! I use it at as a temporary music player until I get the song onto my iPod.
