Hollywood movies, well really any movie sold in a store in any sort of legal and legit way, has DVD cover art to go with it. Mostly this comes with cool descriptive graphics on the official case, and on the inside, the disc itself has something over it as well. It’s a standard practice to label your discs so that people can easily tell when they have a genuine copy.

That is of course, unless you’re talking about The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. This movie seems to break that rule. Instead of making it just like every other DVD (distinguishable from the fraudulent copies), they’ve made it simply look as though somebody labeled a regular piece of DVD media with a black sharpie (like a pirate). The copy pictured above is the 100% genuine release from Sony Pictures, ironically, a company who’s gone to great lengths to stop piracy (and suing you if you mess with their beloved PS3 too much).

The art was done intentionally this way to fit the movie’s theme and Rooney Mara’s character.
