Looking For a Cheap iPhone? Lucky For You, The Price Is Dropping Now
Many sources from across the web are reporting that retailers are about to slash the prices on new iPhones. While this may seem like a great and awesome thing, one should consider the possible consequences of purchasing a brand new device at this time.
For starters, let’s go over the prices that will offered at retail stores. iPhone 3GS is moving down to just $19.99 with 2 year agreement, a rather awesome deal… a year ago.
Radio Shack, where the device is dropping to $169.99 (16GB) and $269.99 (32GB) and the 3GS to $19.99 (8GB), also has a cool trade-in program, allowing you to get the iPhone 4 for a very cheap price when you trade in your old smartphone. Keep in mind also, that all prices are WITH a 2-year agreement. Those looking for a really cheap deal may want to consider visiting Radio Shack with the intension of trading in their older devices.
If trade in isn’t an option for you, Target is the place to be, since they’ll be lowering iPhone 4 prices to an unheard of $149.99 (with 2-year agreement). iPhone 3GS is only $19.99 as well, and it appears as though the supply of iPhone 3GS models are also dwindling lower and lower as the days go by. We all knew this was coming, since the iPhone 3GS is going to be phased out completely when this new model iPhone comes to be a reality.
The real question we have to ask ourselves here, is not why the prices are going down. We know that. A new device is approaching. The question is “Why would we buy now?” – In fact, unless you are really a person who doesn’t care about having the most amount of features for the best price, there is simply no reason to buy an iPhone right now. A smart person doesn’t purchase the current model when a newer model is expected to be announced in less than a month.
I suppose, the only really great reason to purchase one of these devices now is as a gift. Perhaps your daughter has been wanting an iPhone for a while. If she’s doing well in school, use this opportunity to get her an iPhone for a cheap price. Even still though, you should wait until the newer model comes out, since the price is likely to drop even further, likely to just $99 when the new model comes out.
To make a long story short… If you like tech, understand that although these devices are now cheaper, they aren’t the best option. Wait for the better one. Even if you don’t want the newest device, the current one will be significantly lower soon.
