Don’t you just hate it when all those awesome apps you downloaded while jailbroken are all wiped away when you need to restore your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad? Do you wish there was a simple way to just back those apps up with the rest of your apps? I know I do! It’s a pain in the ass to have to reinstall everything and re-customize my device after a restore, but I do it anyways because that’s how I want my phone to work, and I have a right to do whatever I want with my device (suck it Apple!). Some people have a few tricks, like taking screenshots of their packages so that they remember which ones to download, others write things down, and some just go off the top of their head, potentially creating a whole new experience for themselves afterwards. Whatever your method of keeping your phone, your phone, there is one simple fact: It takes too much time.

Luckily… there’s an App for that too.

It’s called xBackup, and it’s a simple way to backup and restore your jailbroken apps with a simple tap of the finger. Don’t let firmware restores and updates get you down… with this app, you won’t have to worry about all those re-downloads and re-installs! Let xBackup do it for you! The icon looks like a type vault, and the process to restore your apps is simple (obviously, a jailbreak will still be required).

First, run xBackup and tap Backup. It’s very important to tap backup BEFORE restoring the iDevice. Without doing this, the app is just an icon, with no function. Then, connect with iTunes and perform a sync. All of your Cydia/jailbreak applications are now completely backed up with the rest of your files! Awesome right? This is the process everyone has been waiting for really. No more lists to save, or huge downloads and installs to do all at once. Now, it’s a simple as putting all your packages right on the device via USB along with the rest of your files!

When you have finished restoring the iPhone, be sure to set it up FROM THE BACKUP that you synced to save. All your files, afterall, are located within that backup. Once that is complete, and you’ve let the device sync fully, you are ready to jailbreak your iPhone.

After you have your jailbreak of choice applied, visit Cydia, and download xBackup again. Once it is on your device, simply click the “Restore” button….. what, you expected more steps? Sorry to disappoint, but your done!

xBackup is a $1.50 download from the Cydia Store, located in the BigBoss Repo.
