Chinese Turn Their Dogs Into Other Animals? What Do You Think Is the Motive?

This is either awesome, or disturbing, depending on your stance with animal treatment. It seems people in China are off to the races with some crazy stuff once again, this time making their pets look like other animals.

Little dogs are painted to look like panda bears. Larger animals can be tigers. If your child is obsessed with Pokèmon… why not make your little furry friend into a genuine Pikachu? It wouldn’t be entirely out of the question would it? It would make your child very happy, and at the same time, help to protect your pet from other people, who may see motive to snatching up your little fuzzy friend.

Why would people want to snatch up your pet? It may have something to do with the unfortunate reality that dogs are in fact on the menu there, and many strays end up on people’s dinner plates.

In Vietnam, special dog restaurants are formed near the outskirts of major cities, and while they are generally taboo for the more proper crowd in the country, these establishments still grab up canines for a meal for people across Asia. I was able to witness a few of these places while on my trip to Vietnam just a few months ago, however I never went inside them. Luckily in this part of Asia, eating dog is viewed as a pretty embarrassing reminder of a poor past that most would rather forget.

In China, dogs are favored in restaurants more than most other types of meat. It’s a bit different from other parts, considering that it’s far more expensive than pork or beef and could even be considered by many as a delicacy. All the more reason to want to dress your little friend up in ridiculous clothing, or to give them a whole new appearance entirely.

So, while more people may be eating dog as the country gets richer, newly wealthy Chinese have embraced dog-owning culture with a vengeance, and have moved to dressing their animals in all sorts of colors. They’ve gotten pretty good at it too. Many dogs actually look very much like Panda bears, as you can see from the photos below. Tigers are here as well.

How many people do you think would consider going this far to dress up their pets? Would they go as far as painting them, like the Chinese? If your child wanted their little kitty to look like Pikachu, would you have this done to it? Some have taken to the route of doing silly things like this as well.

Kinda seems freaky to me.
